For the maintenance of wide bodied jets in hangars which in reality are too short for this purpose, KAMAG Transporttechnik GmbH & Co. KG recently designed and delivered bogie units for the movement of an auxiliary mobile hangar. The bogie units with a payload of more than 500 tons have now been successfully put into service.

On each side of the hangar, two KAMAG bogie units are mounted to a special support frame. One five axle unit and one four axle unit one at each corner, four in all, receive the load of the mobile hangar. A Deutz Diesel engine with 389 HP generates the power necessary to the hydraulic pumps. They supply the hydrostatic drive system with pressurized oil flow, the electronic-hydraulic steering system and the hydraulic cylinders integrated in the wheel sets take care of lifting and lowering of the hangar weighing up to 500 tons.

The electronic-hydraulic steering system allows different steering programs, e.g. normal drive, diagonal drive, traverse drive. In combination with the extremely sensitive hydrostatic drive system, exact and precise positioning of the hangar is possible for any point desired, without any problem.

The design, development and realization of these bogie units for the transport of the hangar proves once more the competence of Ulm’s manufacturer of special vehicles for heavy transports and special applications. In the area of airports KAMAG has already been successful for many years with tow tractors and catering trucks on an international level.
