During the past fiscal year, BAUR Prüf- und Messtechnik GmbH in Sulz (Austria) made a profit of 20 million Euro. Almost a third of the profit was from new products - proof of the innovative strength of the company. In addition, the excellent result of BAUR is due to the global distribution and service network: In the last year, the company furnished supplies and services in 78 different countries. The worldwide focus promises profitable orders and good utilisation of the production in the future. In the past year, the production area at the Sulz factory was expanded by about 500 m², another expansion is planned in 2012.
The company boom is reflected in the growing number of employees, especially in development and marketing. At present, BAUR has 137 employees, about one-tenth more than a year ago. An increase in the workforce on the same scale is planned for this year as well. In particular, we are looking for experts in product development as well as production skilled workers. The youth in particular benefit from the good business situation. To expand the skills training, BAUR has established its own training department.
Innovation with tradition – Company founder Josef Baur would be 100 years old
Josef Baur was the initiator of several innovations, which are of major significance for the measurement and testing technology even today. He would have been 100 years old on 24 March 2012. At the young age of 33, the enthusiastic engineer established the Josef Baur engineering workshops and with the construction of the first portable high voltage generator in the year 1950, laid the foundation for the product line of the present company. The lightweight device weighing only 20 kg delivered a test voltage of 45 kV direct current and thus opened up new opportunities for cable testing for power engineers in the area of energy supply.
In parallel, Josef Baur and his team devoted themselves to insulating oil testing - essentially, to assess the quality of transformer oil. The breakdown oil tester PGO presented by Baur in 1955 was a sweeping success in the market - and the first in a series of devices that proved to be the second pillar in the success of the company.
The hundredth birthday of Josef Baur was celebrated by his son Martin who took over the company from his father in 1978, the Baur Family, CEO Gerd Kupper and the staff with a big party, where the company founder was honoured with a book: "45,000 volt excitement – The fascinating history of BAUR Prüf- und Messtechnik”. The book illustrates the story of Josef Baur and the historical development of the testing and measurement technology.
