Locate cable faults easily with the new BAUR shirla

* Portable device for cable and sheath testing, fault pre-location, and pin-pointing
* Large easy-to-read touchscreen replaces operation via rotary knob
* New software guides users through the various operating steps
* For network operators, service providers, cable providers, industry, airports

With the new "shirla" device version, BAUR GmbH (Sulz/Austria) has prioritised convenient operation by replacing the rotary knob with modern touch control. This makes cable and cable sheath testing as well as cable fault pre-location and pin-pointing even easier with the portable device. The large colour touchscreen is easy to read in all light conditions thanks to the adjustable lighting and day and night mode.

During use, the new "BAUR flow UI" software guides the user through the workflow using preselected steps. Information relevant to the context can also be shown if required. This makes the new shirla easy to use, even for less experienced employees. The results of the test cycles or cable fault location can be displayed on the touchscreen as traces or a report. shirla automatically saves the reports and allows them to be exported to a USB drive.

The proven core features of shirla remain unchanged: As with the previous version, cable and cable sheath testing is possible with DC voltages up to 10 kV. Fault pre-location is based on the measuring bridge principle according to Murray and Glaser. To pin-point faults due to earth contact, shirla generates a pulsed voltage and thus supports the step voltage method with the BAUR protrac  pin-pointing system.

Technical improvements in sheath testing and fault pre-location include output current limitation: By specifying an upper limit, users can avoid accidental "burning" of the cable. For pin-pointing, there are now no fewer than five pulse patterns to choose from, which can be helpful when working in an environment with a lot of interference.
