ProCom GmbH has been commissioned by ENERVIE Südwestfalen Energie und Wasser AG, Hagen (Germany), to consult the company on the introduction of 24/7 trading. The aim of ENERVIE and its subsidiary Mark-E is to assess the economic effect of the 24/7 trade as well as the resulting requirements concerning organisation and IT. The portfolio of the company group offers various revenue potentials that can be raised by 24/7 trading.
The generation portfolio of ENERVIE and Mark-E consists of a mix of renewable energies, thermal power plants and a pumped-storage power plant. Via intraday trading Mark-E is planning to market the conventional power plants around the clock, thus using the flexibility potential in a best possible manner while minimising the costs for balancing energy. The latter applies to the sales portfolio of the group as well as to the renewable energy plants, which will be further expanded in the coming years. Through an integrated common marketing and the related portfolio effects, further potential is obtained.
In collaboration with ENERVIE, ProCom is to review the strategic approach regarding its practical suitability and provides advice on the shaping of the processes and the IT landscape. In the holistic design of the 24/7 trade, ProCom will take into account interactions within the organisation. This requires close interaction of trading, dispatching and IT systems involved. It also relates to areas such as risk management and scheduling. In the design phase, both current requirements as well as possible changes will be considered, such as new regulations of the Federal Network Agency or the transmission system operators.
ProCom Managing Director Andreas Nolden commented: "Our consultancy fills trading strategies with life. Although the objectives and recommendations are defined in a strategy, just how the processes and corresponding IT should look remains open. We examine the strategy on its feasibility and provide a concrete, holistic approach for practical implementation."
