With the recent move to the new German headquarters in the centre of Frankfurt, Nestlé's approximately 1500 employees enjoy an open and interactive working atmosphere. On the ground floor, the new “Markthalle”, or market hall, with its open-plan kitchen and several restaurant areas invites employees to enjoy a culinary experience. To complement the high-quality menu, Nestlé has opted for WMF Second Life to equip its company catering facilities. The concept, which gives second-hand cutlery as well as returns and discontinued products a second life, also impressed the Nestlé team aesthetically: All pieces are stonewashed and are mixed throughout the collection so that no two items are the same. In this way, the cutlery brings an unmistakable vintage look to the laid table. “We placed particular emphasis on sustainability and quality when it came to the equipment,” explains Thomas Weber, Head of Corporate Services & Director House of Nestlé. “As sustainable cutlery, WMF Second Life represents an absolutely unique selling point on the market and is therefore the product of choice for us.” As part of the Second Life concept, the WMF cutlery previously used by Nestlé will also be returned to the sustainable circular economy.
Since October, Nestlé employees have been able to enjoy delicious breakfasts and lunches in the new market hall that seats around 270 people. At peak times, around 660 meals can be prepared in the open show kitchen – with a focus on local and regional specialities. With crossover cooking, where ingredients from different regions of the world come together, the kitchen team sets culinary highlights and pays attention to providing a variety of vegan and vegetarian alternatives. “The guest concept for our employees has one main goal: They should feel comfortable and enjoy working in our new headquarters,” says Thomas Weber. The exceptional range of dishes is accompanied by a furnishing concept that is also unrivalled. The extensive product range of cutlery and menu items from WMF emphasises the individuality, quality and sustainability of Nestlé catering. “WMF Second Life is generating enthusiasm among our customers, and demand in the market is correspondingly high,” says Carsten Kulcke, General Manager of proHeq GmbH. “Nevertheless, an order of this size is not an everyday occurrence and we are proud to have fulfilled this order on time and completely,” adds Kulcke.
Long-standing partnership
WMF Professional and Nestlé have been working closely together for decades. The product portfolio of the “Expert of Table Culture” has long been an integral part of the table top equipment in Nestlé Professional's training rooms and in the restaurant at the company's former German headquarters. This also applies to the new headquarters: The WMF UNIC cutlery collection, for example, is used in the fine dining division of Nestlé catering. For Thomas Weber, this aspect was also relevant when deciding in favour of WMF Second Life: “When selecting our partners, we naturally look for references. In this case, we even had them ‘in-house’. As usual, the collaboration on the Markthalle project was very professional and organised in a spirit of partnership – we spoke the same language right from the start.”
