All Averatec notebooks now ‘climate neutral’
All of the CO2 emissions from three years of Averatec notebook use will be neutralised
From now on Averatec will only sell climate-neutral notebooks in Europe. The CO2 emissions generated by any Averatec notebook over three years use will be ‘neutralised’ by Averatec through the purchase of guarantees of origin from hydroelectric power projects.
This move is part of Averatec’s ongoing commitment to protecting the environment and drive towards achieving a zero impact on the climate. It has been set up in partnership with Sustainable Partner GmbH that has produced a highly comprehensive study on climate neutral notebooks.
The climate neutral laptop initiative follows Averatec’s successful CO2 campaign launched last year where for each notebook purchased Averatec pays for the neutralisation of one tonne of CO2 emissions as part of the ClimatePartner initiative (www.climatepartner.co.uk).
"Climate-neutral notebooks were the next logical step in our drive to protect the climate,” said Bengt Stahlschmidt, managing director of Averatec Europe GmbH. "CO2 emissions occur mainly through power consumption. Neutralisation is organised for us by Sustainable Partner and is based on the fundamentals of the Kyoto Convention. At CeBIT this year we will be presenting Sustainable Partner’s in depth study into climate-neutral notebooks as well as demonstrating how our campaign will be put into practice.”
Depending on the way it is used a notebook’s power consumption and therefore its CO2 emissions will vary greatly. Studies have shown that when a notebook is exclusively used privately, over three years, around 40% less CO2 is emitted than when used for business. "Although our notebooks are targeted at the consumer market, when calculating CO2 emissions we worked on the basis that 50% of users are professionals”, explained Stahlschmidt. "We would rather neutralise a little more CO2 than too little.”
To find out more, come along and see Averatec at CeBIT from 9 to 15, March 2006 on stand 831, Trellements (Roof, hall 1) access 4/8, ("Behind the Green Door”).
