KAMAG delivers special transporters to Korea
The vehicles together weigh 186 tons
The manufacturer of special transporters KAMAG Transporttechnik GmbH & Co. KG in Ulm has delivered two very special machines to Korea. One of the biggest steel plants in Korea has ordered a Slag Pot Transporter. The Shipyard Transporter has been ordered by one of the most important shipyards in Korea. The transport of the vehicles, weighing 186 tons together, has been done over the road to the port on the river Neckar in Heilbronn. From there they go to Antwerp by barge, where they will be loaded on a Ro-Ro vessel to the destination of Masan / Korea.
Slag Pot Transporter for steel plant90 tons dead weight, 100 tons payload, therefore the slag pot transporter by KAMAG has a total weight of about 190 tons. It will be delivered to a Korean steel plant in Seoul. The transporter will be used for disposal of liquid slag within the steel producing plant. The slag, which accrues during steel melting, is very hot (up to 1.300 degrees) and very aggressive. Therefore the slag pot transporter must be extremely reliable in order to manage this challenging mission: carrying the liquid slag in special slag pots to the dumpsite and dumping. KAMAG, as a leader in manufacturing these special transporters has even further improved the safety aspect with the actual generation of Slag Pot Transporters.
Shipyard TransporterThe Korean shipyard is one of the five world biggest ship building companies. The Korean company has been a client of the transporter manufacturer KAMAG in Ulm for years and has already several KAMAG transporters in use. In the shipyard they mainly lay the keel of ships like tankships, container vessels and special ships for transport of chemicals. To move single ship sections or prefabricated parts such as diesel engines or propellers the KAMAG shipyard transporters are used.
With a loading platform dimension of 23.3 x 6.6 m it has a ground surface of a huge-sized familiy home and therefore offers space for great ship sections. Not only the size of the loading platform is impressive, also the load capacity in weight: 518 tons would be equal to the weight of about 450 medium-sized vehicles. With its dead weight of 96.5 tons the section lift transporter brings a total weight of 614.5 tons on the road in loaded condition. This load is distributed on 64 wheels which are mounted to 16 pendulum axle wheel sets.
The electronic multiway steering makes the platform transporter maneuverable like a compact vehicle. It can turn itself around its own axle under full load - diagonal, lateral or crossways to the longitudinal axle. By means of a steering electronic unit which controls each single pendulum axle wheel set. The hydrostatic drive system takes care of smooth driving action. Especially when two ship sections are being put together and precision in maneuverability is required.
The diesel engine with its 518 hp drives the hydraulic pumps, which supply the wheel motors in the pendulum axles with pressured oil.
For the transport of even greater weights the platform transporter is equipped with a coupling device. With this it can be coupled to a second transporter to form one entity. The payload gets increased by the capacity of the second transporter.
