KAMAG delivers special vehicle to the Indian space agency
Ulm´s manufacturer of special vehicles KAMAG delivers an Elevating Transporter with a payload capacity of 400 tons for the transport of rocket propulsion stages, to the Indian space agency ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) in Sriharikota.
The transporter combination consisting of two coupled vehicles has 19 axle lines comprising 38 bogies with 76 tyres. The loading platform is 29 m long and 4.5 m wide. The loading platform can be lifted 700 mm in total, by means of hydraulic cylinders integrated in the wheel bogies. This allows the vehicle to drive under special pallets carrying the load, lift them and move them. The dead weight of the vehicle is approx.96 tonnes that with the payload reaches a total weight of 496 tonnes.
A hydrostatic drive system - specialty of KAMAG Transporttechnik - assures smooth movements of the valuable and sensitive load. Two powerful Diesel engines of 250 HP each drive hydraulic pumps that pressurize the oil, via a tubing and hoses system, to the hydraulic motors in the axles. There, the pressurized oil allows a smooth and shock-free motion. An electronic steering system assures maximum manoeuvrability in spite of its length of 29 m. This steering system disposes of different pre-selectable steering programs; thus, the vehicle combination can drive around its own axis in carousel drive mode or can drive laterally. In this way, manoeuvres that are necessary for the exact positioning of the rocket propulsion stages at their transition point can easiliy be realized.
This is another vehicle delivered by KAMAG Transporttechnik used in a Space Program. In previous years KAMAG supplied vehicles to other space agencies, as e.g. to the American Space Agency NASA, and their agents.
