KAMAG wins big order from China
Large Chinese shipyard orders 8 special vehicles
An order for a total of eight heavy-duty transporters has been placed by a Chinese shipyard with the Ulm-based special vehicle manufacturer, KAMAG Transporttechnik GmbH & Co. KG. Client is the Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Company shipyard which will be developed over the next four years to become the largest shipyard facility in China.
The heavy transporters, which have been ordered in different sizes with regard to platform dimensions and load-bearing capacity, are intended for the transportation of ship components. Two transporters each with a load capacity of 380 tonnes, three transporters with 250 tonnes and three transporters with a carrying capacity of 150 tonnes respectively will be responsible for moving heavy elements around the shipyard in future. With the new KAMAG transporter fleet, a total load-carrying capacity of nearly 2,000 tonnes will be available which corresponds approximately to the weight of five fully loaded jumbo jets. The loading areas of all vehicles, which are supported on altogether 264 wheels, add up to a total area of more than 800 square metres, as largely as four tennis courts placed side-by-side.
Equipped with electronic multi-directional steering, the transporters can carry out very sensitive and precise driving manoeuvres in order to accurately position the ship components in their intended assembly areas. Thus, it is possible that on each individual vehicle or coupled in two, three or four vehicle combinations the wheels can be steered so that the transporter, in addition to normal drive and cornering, can also be driven transversally and diagonally or turn on its own axis.
The name of KAMAG is not an unknown quantity in China. A range of vehicles has already been supplied to different shipyards over the past number of years. Special vehicles from KAMAG are also used by companies in the metallurgical sector there. For the globally active Ulm-based vehicle manufacturer, the Chinese market is one of the most important sales outlets. In the future, too, KAMAG anticipates further orders from different industrial areas.
