Multilift Group buys "SPMT" from SCHEUERLE
Self-propelled heavy load vehicles conquer the world of road transportation
The Multilift Group, a system service provider for regional and heavy transports, crane work and assembly logistics, have ordered SPMT heavy-duty modules from the Pfedelbach-based special vehicle manufacturer SCHEUERLE Fahrzeugfabrik. The Group, which plans, organizes and realises heavy lift cargo assignments will continue to increase its service capabilities with the self-propelled heavy load units.
The order which the Multilift Group have placed with SCHEUERLE, includes two six-axle and four three-axle heavy load modular transporters that have a total of 48 pendulum axles. A Power Pack Unit (PPU) installed in the diesel engine and hydraulic pumps supplies the energy: pressure oil for drive operations, steering as well as lifting and lowering of the vehicle platform. Also the central electronic system, which controls all functions, is accommodated in the PPU. When coupled together, both modular transporters can carry loads of around 1,000 tonnes depending on the driving speed. The hydrostatic drive guarantees precise, strong as well as smooth driving movements.
The electronically-controlled multi-directional steering provides the heavy load combination with a high degree of manoeuvrability. This means, in addition to standard and circular drive, the steering program also allows diagonal and transversal movement enabling the vehicle to manoeuvre around extremely tight spaces along with setting down the loads to the nearest millimetre. With the "carousel” steering program, it can even turn on its own axle.
SPMT heavy duty units from SCHEUERLE have become an integral part in many areas of industry. They are used in the offshore sector where entire offshore drilling platforms weighing 15,000 tonnes and more are transported. In shipyards, they move complete ships and, in the petro-chemical industry, they help bring for the most part huge plant components into position.
In the meantime, SPMT technology is being increasingly used for transportation purposes - an area which has always been reserved purely for road transport vehicles. The advantages which self-propelled heavy load units offer have led to this breakthrough. On the one hand, larger weights with more compact vehicle dimensions can be moved whilst, on the other, the SPMT heavy duty units can be transported to any place of use due to their 2,430 mm width. These arguments proved decisive for the Multilift Group.
Wolfgang Markewitsch, one of the Multilift Group partners, sees the high degree of flexibility that SPMT modular transporters offer as an advantage for the Group: ”Through this, we can develop our service capabilities even more and provide project solutions which can only be realised with self-propelled heavy load vehicles."
