Oversize logistical operations for aircraft parts
Special vehicle from SCHEUERLE transports fuselage sections at aircraft construction facility in Ham
For the transportation of large aircraft fuselage sections, Pfedelbach-based special heavy-duty vehicle manufacturer, SCHEUERLE, has just delivered a purpose-built vehicle to the European aircraft manufacturer, Airbus. The transporter, which is used at the company´s facilities in Hamburg-Finkenwerder, has been designed to carry front and rear fuselage sections in the assembly area.
The fuselage transporter, which moves on 4 pendulum axles complete with all-wheel steering, has a load-carrying capacity of around 20 tonnes. Adjustable support frames on the loading area can be adapted to match the form of the fuselage assembly to be transported. For the longer units, the transporter can be telescoped to increase its overall length from 13.6 up to 16.8 metres.
Powered by two diesel engines, the hydrostatic drive system functions extremely smoothly without any jerking, thus providing a careful and safe transport process for the valuable cargo.
The required driving manoeuvrability – even in tight and narrow conditions – is provided by the electronically controlled all-wheel steering facility which, apart from cornering with front-wheel and/or rear-wheel steering, also allows diagonal drive as well as other freely selectable steering positions.
SCHEUERLE Fahrzeugfabrik GmbH has already supplied several special vehicles for different transportation tasks at AIRBUS. Its sister company, NICOLAS, which like SCHEUERLE is part of the TII Group which belongs to the Heilbronn-based entrepreneur Otto Rettenmaier, has also delivered a range of vehicles to AIRBUS, predominantly for the company´s French plant in Toulouse. The TII Group is thus an important supplier for in-plant special vehicles for the European aircraft manufacturer.
