Special vehicles made in Ulm help ship construction in China
Ulm’s manufacturer of special transport vehicles, KAMAG, recently supplied two ship section transporters each with a payload capacity of 432 tonnes. The two transporters, with a width of 6 meters and a length of 18 meters for the transportation of pre-fabricated ship sections, were delivered to a Chinese shipyard in the Jiangsu province.
Each transporter has a tare weight of 72 tonnes/unit and rolls on 48 wheels. Energy for the drive system, steering, lifting and lowering of the platform – nearly as big as a tennis yard - is provided by a Deutz diesel engine with
581 kW. The hydrostatic drive system allows very precise and sensitive movements necessary to transport and position the over-sized and ultra-heavy ship sections in the assembly hall of the dock. There, a complete ship is built by assembling the individual ship sections. The manoeuvrability of the transporter is assured by electronic multimode steering. Different steering programs allow a vast number of driving manoeuvres, e.g. circular drive (turning on own axis) and diagonal drive (steering in 90° position, sideways).
KAMAG is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of special vehicles for a broad range of applications and tasks. One of the main product areas are ship section transporters which are found in large numbers around the world. China has been one of the most important markets of KAMAG Transporttechnik for many years.
