World premiere: First lead-free tap made from Wieland ECOBRASS
adamastor series by the Portuguese manufacturer BRUMA
ISH Frankfurt, 6 – 10 March 2007, hall 6.0, stand B40
BRUMA presented at the ISH Frankfurt the first lead-free tap, adamastor, as a world innovation. This Portuguese manufacturer, a market leader in fittings and bathroom accessories for over 50 years, used the lead-free ECOBRASS from Wieland-Werke AG, Germany, for the first time. B. Talaia, owner of BRUMA, stated Health is a precious asset that money can´t buy. When we heard that ECOBRASS is a lead-free alternative approved for drinking water applications, it was clear to us that this is the material for the future. We want to offer our customers products which impress not only in their design but are also better for health and environment. Furthermore, ECOBRASS ensures durability and high quality of our products without restriction. First reactions in Portugal have been very positive and encouraged BRUMA in their intention to replace the previously used brass materials gradually with ECOBRASS. Free from toxic substances, ECOBRASS meets the requirements of DIN 50930-6. Therefore, it is also suitable for critical applications, such as drinking water installations, where the most stringent health and environmental standards have to be met.
An investment in the future
ECOBRASS can be produced without the addition of lead due to a particular alloy combination of copper, zinc and silicon. This combination gives the material its high strength and a good elongation property required for cold or hot working, including hot forging and casting and is also the reason why ECOBRASS can be better processed than conventional lead-containing brass. High strength and excellent corrosion resistance ensure leak-proof, wear-resistant connections in sanitary installations exposed to high mechanical stresses. Components made from ECOBRASS are largely insensitive to stress corrosion cracking and dezincification, making additional surface treatment unnecessary. Moreover, ECOBRASS has good machining properties providing virtually unlimited scope for design creativity. Wieland re-uses ECOBRASS swarf within a full-cycle materials reclamation system. The resulting cost effectiveness along with the benefit of heightened productivity makes ECOBRASS a genuine alternative to other non-ferrous metals or stainless steel. ECOBRASS is available in the form of rods, wires and sections.
BRUMA´s adamastor series captivates through its minimalist look. It has been designed for people who see a tap not only as an article of daily use but also as a design object. adamastor taps are available in a total of 12 versions and have been developed by BRUMA’s designers. The series is currently exclusively available directly from the manufacturer.
