The new version of the Smart Grid Hub communication module from EFR Europaeische Funk-Rundsteuerung (Munich) allows readings from an electronic meter to be displayed directly on a computer screen. EasyMeter users can now analyse their usage, their electricity costs or the generation performance of their photovoltaic system or micro CHP unit in near real time in a highly convenient manner using a normal web browser. The web server also provides historical data and summaries, including diagrams showing readings over the last two months. The Smart Grid Hub thus allows user to identify possible energy savings and increase awareness of their own consumption.
The IP-based Smart Grid Hub also facilitates communication with market partners, such as electricity providers or meter reading operators. For this purpose the device has a built-in, individually addressable long-wave receiver to provide an economical and reliable channel for unscheduled tariff changes or reprogramming the tariff schedule stored in the EasyMeter. Additional communication channels – Internet connection over Ethernet, powerline communication or GPRS, depending on the device configuration – support two-way communication. In addition to allowing new tariff schedules to be downloaded to the smart meter, this allows consumers to send measured load cycles (their usage data) to the relevant service provider for billing.

The Smart Grid Hub’s built-in web server allows the consumer’s usage figures to be displayed and analysed on the computer without any need for the data to go beyond the house.
